Group project by Julian Aaskov Mikkelsen, Tobias Frydkjær Hansen & Emily Athina
Project: school project
Client: Kommunalvalg
Target Group: young voters, especially those who just turned 18 (legal voting age)
Assignment: design an app, branding and campaign solution which engages more young voters to vote during regional elections (kommunalvalg)
Duration: 3 weeks
The assignment & concept
For this project we worked in groups to create an app, which aimed to encouraged more young and new voters to vote during regional election (kommunalvalg).
For that reason, we brainstormed and created an app based on the Pokémon GO app. Since this app is all about catching Pokémon, we though it would be a fun concept to turn it around and catch politicians instead!
And from that idea the Chooser (Vælgeren) app was born. The app concept in its simplicity is all about encouraging young voters to vote. By going out on the street and catching the politicians, they will learn about each of their policies and get a better understanding of their own opinions. Plus a collection of cool stickers as a trophy on the side…
Function
The young voters go out into the streets of the city looking for regional election posters of different politicians. The app tells which are close by and if you already have discovered them.
The voter scans the poster and is asked a series of questions related to the politician’s policies. The voter needs to swipe left or right if they disagree or agree with the question.
After they have “captured” the politician, they’ll be informed whether or not they agree with the politician’s political opinion.
This teaches the voters about which kinds of policies they would agree with. This app also helps new voters understand the election better and form the start of an opinion.
Character design
The character and icon of the Chooser (Vælgeren) is this lovely fellow. When new voters use the app and catch more politicians they are rewarded character stickers.
These stickers can be used across social media: Instagram, Messenger and Snap Chat.
The design is inspired by asian characters/emojis and a simple modern style, which appeals to the new voters.
Animation
The stickers will act as GIFs, bringing more life to the fun and special expressions.
These stickers show other people that the young/new voters took the initiative and learned more about the election in a fun and familiar way.
